Pitch & Loudness Scales
Two staircases of tones span the same range. One climbs in equal linear steps; the other climbs in equal ratios. On paper the linear one is the “even” one — but play them and the logarithmic staircase is the one that sounds evenly spaced, because the ear judges both pitch and loudness by ratio. Switch between stepping the frequency and stepping the amplitude.
